Joseph Chapman received a B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016 where he worked under Paul Kwiat to support their quantum communication projects. He then was granted a PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2020 where he stayed to experimentally lead Kwiat’s investigation to implement quantum communication in space for NASA. In 2017, he was awarded the competitive National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship by the Department of Defense. In 2019, he was awarded the Donald and Shirley Jones Fellowship for outstanding graduate students by his department. His current research at ORNL focuses on quantum network hardware development. He is a regular reviewer for the Physical Review and Optica families of journals. In 2024, he was awarded a Physical Review Applied Reviewer Excellence 2024 Award.
