Prior to joining the North Carolina State University faculty as Goodnight Distinguished Chair in Quantum Computing in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Sabre Kais was a distinguished professor of Chemistry and Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as a courtesy professor of Computer Science and Physics at Purdue. The research in his group is mainly devoted to quantum information and quantum computing for complex chemical systems.  He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Guggenheim Fellow, Purdue University Faculty Scholar, National Science Foundation Career Award Fellow, 2012 Sigma Xi Research Award, 2019 Herbert Newby McCoy Award, Purdue University and Miller Visiting Professor at Berkeley.

Presentation Title: A Journey Through Open Problems in Quantum Information and Quantum Computing

Presentation Abstract: In this talk, I will present a selection of open problems that have emerged from our research, highlighting the roles of quantum superposition, interference, and entanglement in addressing fundamental questions at the interface of physics, chemistry, and artificial intelligence. Topics include: What role do quantum superposition and entanglement play in predicting the outcomes of chemical reactions? Is quantum energy teleportation physically realizable and practically useful? Can we develop a fundamental understanding of the learning dynamics of quantum machine learning?
