Joon Sue Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is an experimental condensed matter physicist specializing in the synthesis and control of quantum materials and hybrid quantum devices. His research focuses on the epitaxial growth of quantum materials—including topological materials, low-dimensional semiconductors, and superconductor–quantum material heterostructures—to uncover emergent quantum phenomena and enable next-generation quantum technologies. Dr. Lee received his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in 2014 and subsequently held postdoctoral positions at Penn State and University of California, Santa Barbara. He joined University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2020 and was recently awarded an NSF CAREER Award in support of his research and education initiatives in quantum materials.
