Phil Evans is an experimental optics and quantum information scientist with 19 years of experience at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory. His work centers on development of quantum technologies for national security, including quantum communications, quantum key distribution, quantum sensing, and photonic quantum computing. He has led the development and demonstration of quantum systems for secure communications and ultra-trace sensing, and has applied advanced optical techniques to anti-tamper, supply-chain security, cyber-physical security, and nuclear nonproliferation challenges. He leads multidisciplinary teams delivering high-impact national security R&D.
