Vice President – Innovation and Applied R&D

Dr. Alger is a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers and is the Vice President for Innovation and Applied R&D at UL Solutions. His team focuses on developing new test methods and services to support product safety across the variety of industries served by UL Solutions. Prior to joining UL Solutions, Dr. Alger led the Sustainable Energy and Mobility Directorate at Southwest Research Institute, developing solutions for low-CO2 transportation. He and his team developed several new technologies for improved efficiency of IC engines and, since 2012 he has also worked on lithium-ion battery technology and electrified powertrains.

He has been awarded over 30 patents and authored over 70 technical papers. In addition to numerous awards from the Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for excellence in internal combustion engine research, he was also awarded the Edith and Peter O’Donnell Award for Technology Innovation from TAMEST (Texas Academy of Medicine, Science, Engineering and Technology) in 2019 and he and his team have been 6-time R&D 100® award finalists and 4-time winners.
