Dr. Benjamin J. Mintz is the Director of the Interconnected Science Ecosystem INTERSECT Initiative at Oak Ridge National Laboratory ORNL, where he leads the development of a scalable system of systems that integrates high performance computing, edge computing, advanced analytics, and experimental instrumentation to enable autonomous self-driving scientific discovery. He is also advancing a vision for Laboratories of the Future that connects AI driven research environments that can generate hypotheses, execute experiments, and adapt in real time to accelerate discovery across scientific domains. In this role, he sets strategy, drives long range planning, and ensures alignment with Department of Energy mission priorities.
Dr. Mintz earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of North Texas with a focus in computational chemistry and has over 15 years of experience spanning chemistry, massively parallel computing, and autonomous system of systems technologies. Prior to ORNL, he spent eight years at Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, where he served as a program manager leading advanced research and development efforts for DARPA and multiple US Air Force organizations.
