2026 Trillion-Pixel Challenge

Strategic Planning Workshop

Oak Ridge,

TN

Join leading GeoAI experts from DOE laboratories, federal agencies, academia, and industry to define the frontiers of GeoAI. Together, we’ll assess the state of the field, identify emerging technology trajectories and priority grand challenges, and chart a 10-year R&D roadmap for advancing GeoAI.

Through a series of breakout sessions and group discussions, we will:

  • Refocus and align the TPC with the most pressing GeoAI grand challenges over the next decade.
  • Design an annual symposium targeted at driving GeoAI maturation in alignment with national security challenges and community-wide technological needs. Symposium kickoff is set for March 2027 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
  • Set a 10-year R&D-to-operations agenda that charts a roadmap for robust human-AI teaming and geospatial digital twins.

Breakout sessions will explore the following themes:

  • World Models and Digital Twins
  • AI Agents with Spatial Reasoning
  • Large Multimodal Models
  • Interpretability in Vision-Language Models
  • AI Reasoning, Reliability, and Provenance in GEOINT
  • Benchmarks and Evaluation as a Science
  • Computing and Data Infrastructure
