Dr. Jonathan Taylor is Director of the Neutron Scattering Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he leads operations of 31 state-of-the-art neutron scattering instruments at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR). His career spans over three decades across major international research infrastructures, including the European Spallation Source (ESS) and the ISIS Neutron and Muon Facility in the U.K. Dr. Taylor’s research expertise lies in quantum materials, strongly correlated electron systems, neutron scattering instrumentation, user facility operation, scientific computing and research data management.

Presentation Title:

The Neutron Scattering Quantum Connection

Presentation Abstract:

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) hosts two premier Department of Energy neutron scattering user facilities—the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS)—which together provide unparalleled tools for studying quantum materials. This presentation will describe the existing and future neutron scattering facilities highlighting capabilities for understanding emergent quasi-particle states in materials, entanglement and coherence and providing a comprehensive platform for quantum materials researchers.Â
