Dr. Sreenivas “Rangan” Sukumar is the Senior Director of AI for Science and Innovation at AMD, where he leads technical execution, ecosystem partnerships, and innovation strategy at the convergence of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. In this role, he serves as an end-to-end system architect for scientific discovery workflows, sovereign AI, and open-model initiatives.
Before joining AMD, Dr. Sukumar was a Senior Distinguished Technologist at HPE and Cray, where he was the lead architect for multiple post-exascale computing systems—the two most recent being ORNL’s Lux and Discovery. He previously served as a Group Leader at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where his team helped scientists scale data-intensive discovery workflows on leadership-class supercomputers. He holds a Ph.D. in artificial intelligence from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as well as multiple patents and more than 100 peer-reviewed publications.
