Curt Jawdy, PE is Sr. Program Manager at the Tennessee Valley Authority, where he leads systems research and capacity acceleration strategy. Curt cut his teeth as a water modeler and ran the project to modernize TVA’s operational River Forecast Center. More recently, he is working at the intersection of complex systems and the people who run them. He is currently executing one AI project on industry-wide specification standardization and one on improving transmission buildout strategy.
Curt served on the National Academies’ water-energy nexus committee, is a member of EPRI’s Research Advisory Committee, and leads the National Hydropower Association’s Water Innovation Committee. He is a licensed engineer with an M.S. from the University of Tennessee. In his spare time, he started a classical high school and writes at Machines & Mustard Seeds on how to ensure the systems of society best serve human flourishing.

Designing Systems to Make the Most of Human-AI Collaboration
Presentation Abstract:
Organizations are in the midst of an unprecedented experiment partnering humans with AI systems across the economy. Most firms have taken an opportunistic approach on which problems to address first, and how to pair humans with their new AI tools. What guidance exists on how to get the best out of humans and their AI tools has been anecdotal at best.
This talk will overlay complex systems science with a humanistic view to begin recommending principles. These principles will help us deploy AI against the right problems, in the right ways to improve both human productivity and agency. The field which gave birth to AI now has an opportunity to help integrate its child effectively.
