Richard Klafter Head of Engineering Atomic Canyon Richard brings 15+ years of startup experience deploying and commercializing cutting-edge technologies: photogrammetry pipelines, AI training data platforms, multimodal AI for fraud detection and commerce. Before joining Atomic Canyon as Head of Engineering, Richard ran a consulting company where he partnered with startups to build technical foundations and deploy their AI systems. Drawn to Atomic Canyon’s mission to modernize nuclear operations through AI, Richard now leads engineering to realize that vision.
Presentation Title:
The Nuclear-AI Flywheel: How Nuclear Powers AI and AI Powers Nuclear
Presentation Abstract:
We’re witnessing the emergence of a powerful feedback loop: AI systems require massive amounts of clean, reliable power that nuclear is uniquely positioned to provide, while nuclear operations need advanced computing to modernize and secure critical energy infrastructure. Atomic Canyon sits at the center of this revolution, providing nuclear specific generative benchmarks and open-source models. From deploying the first on-site generative AI at a U.S. nuclear plant to developing FERMI models trained on Oak Ridge’s Frontier supercomputer, Atomic Canyon is proving how advanced computing strengthens our energy security posture. This presentation explores the unique challenges and opportunities of AI deployment in nuclear environments and how advanced computing can accelerate nuclear energy to meet tomorrow’s energy security demands.
