Dr. Shih-Chieh Kao is a distinguished research an development staff member in the Environmental Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He also serves as program manager for the ORNL’s Water Power Program. He oversees a broad portfolio of research projects supported by the Department of Energy’s Hydropower and Hydrokinetic Office. Kao’s research interests include high-performance computing, hydrologic modeling, flood inundation simulation, hydroclimate impact assessment, and hydropower resource evaluation. Since 2011, he has led the SECURE Water Act Section 9505 Assessment, which evaluates the impacts of long-term changes in water availability for hydropower production across the U.S.
