Dr. Craig Blue works to enhance coordination of ORNL’s resources and capabilities across several directorates in support of defense and related manufacturing activities designed to promote U.S. competitiveness and economic advantage. Blue also serves as the director of the Defense Manufacturing Program for the National Security Science Directorate. Blue’s research and scientific leadership have shaped a vision for advanced manufacturing for over two decades. He was the founding director of the Department of Energy’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility and the founding CEO of IACMI—The Composites Institute, an institute within the Manufacturing USA initiative comprising a public-private partnership to increase domestic production capacity, grow manufacturing, and create jobs across the U.S. composites industry. Blue also initiated a national machine tool program, America’s Cutting Edge (ACE), to drive the revitalization of the machine tool industry in the U.S.
