David Cotten currently serves as the PI for the Secure Pathways for Resilient Communications (SPaRC) project for ORNL and also leads the Resilient Communications Group within National Security Sciences at ORNL. After receiving his PhD in Physics from the University of Georgia (UGA) he co-founded the Small Satellite Research Laboratory at UGA where he led the building of their first CubeSat and its accompanying ground communications system. David joined ORNL as a Senior Researcher in 2021 focusing on developing new and unique communications solutions for DOE and the DoD. He brings communications experience from space to ground links, waveform development, and protocol research that are being utilized to solve communications problems starting at the bit level.
