Long-Qing Chen is the Hamer Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Penn State, where he also holds appointments in Engineering Science and Mechanics and Mathematics. He earned his degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University, SUNY Stony Brook, and MIT, and joined Penn State in 1992. An expert in multiscale computational modeling of microstructure evolution, Chen’s research focuses on phase transformations, domain switching, and mesoscale phenomena in functional and quantum materials. He directs the DOE Center for Computational Mesoscale Materials Science and is founding Editor-in-Chief of npj Computational Materials. Actively engaged in both teaching and research, Chen collaborates widely with academic, industrial, and national lab partners. His students and postdocs have received numerous prestigious awards, and he is affiliated with the interdisciplinary IMATSE graduate program at Penn State.
