Speakers

Dr. Carol Woodward: Dr. Woodward is a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.  She received a PhD in Computational and Applied mathematics from Rice University and leads the FASTMath computational mathematics Institute for the US Dept. of Energy as part of the Science Discovery Through Advanced Computing (SciDAC) program.  She is a Senior Member of the IEEE.  Woodward’s research interests include numerical methods for time integration and solution of nonlinear algebraic systems.  She is the co-winner of the SIAM / ACM Prize in Computational Science and Engineering and of a Secretary of Energy Achievement Award.

Dr. Ning Lin: Dr. Lin received the Ph.D. degree in energy systems from the University of Alberta in 2018. He is currently with Powertech Labs Inc., Surrey, BC, Canada, where he is responsible for developing the power system analysis software DSATools, conducting power systems research, and providing consulting services. He was an engineer with NR Electric, Co., Ltd., in substation automation, flexible ac transmission systems, and HVdc control and protection. His research interests include ac/dc grids, electromagnetic transient simulation, real-time hardware emulation, power system stability analysis, and heterogeneous high-performance computing of power electronics and power systems. He is a senior member of IEEE and a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. He is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and IEEE Open Access Journal of Power and Energy.
